The Clubs & Organisations list is a home on this site for groups that already get out and about in Tasmania: dive clubs, field naturalist groups, photography societies, conservation organisations, and anyone else who meets up to explore, record or look after the places and species we write about.
Getting a club listed takes a little setup from our side the first time. After that, the club is yours to run, and there is no cost at any point.
In short: create a member account, send us your club's details, and we'll set the club up with your account as its club administrator. From then on you look after the page, the members, events and the journal yourself.
1. Create a member account
Clubs on Our Tasmania are run through member accounts, so the person who will look after your club needs one first. When we set a club up, we choose its administrator from existing accounts. We can't attach a club to an email address on its own.
Request an account and verify your email address. An administrator reviews each new request, and you'll get an email letting you know the outcome. If you already have an account, you can skip this step.
2. Send us your club's details
Get in touch through the contact page and let us know you'd like your club added. It helps to include:
- The club's name and what kind of group it is
- Where you meet, or the area you're active in
- A short summary of a sentence or two, plus a longer description if you have one
- Contact details you'd like shown: an email address, phone number, website or social media link
- A logo and a header image, if you have them
- The member account that should manage the club, using the name or email address you registered with
Don't worry if you haven't got all of it. Your club administrator can add or change most of these details later.
3. We set up your club
A site administrator creates your club's page from the details you send, adds your account to the club and gives it the Club administrator role. Once the page is ready we publish it, and your club appears in the Clubs & Organisations list with its own page that visitors can browse and ask to join.
4. Run your club
Once you're a club administrator, sign in and open My Clubs. Your club is listed under Clubs You Manage, and that's where the day-to-day running of the club happens:
- Club details: edit the name, summary, longer description, where you meet, the logo and header image, and your website, email, phone and social link.
- Membership requests: approve or decline people who ask to join, message them if you need more information, and keep notes on a request.
- Members: see who belongs to the club, send a message to every member at once, and remove a member when you need to.
- Messages: keep your conversations with members in one place.
- Events: add, edit and delete your club's outings and meetings. Events you make public also appear on the site-wide Events calendar.
- Journal: write up what you found on the day. Entries show on your club's page once you make them public, and can be linked to the event they came from.
What stays with the site team
A few settings stay with site administrators so the clubs list stays consistent: whether a club is published, its web address and club type, and who holds the club administrator role. If you'd like someone else to help run the club, or you're handing it over, let us know and we'll update it for you.
What it costs
Nothing. There's no fee to list a club, no fee for members to join, and nothing held back behind a paid tier. Our Tasmania is a volunteer site, and it stays that way.
To see how clubs and member accounts fit together, have a look at the Community page, or browse the clubs already listed to see what a club page looks like.
