Field Observations & Community Science
Understanding and documenting the species found around Tasmania is an important part of learning what lives in our local environments. Community science platforms such as iNaturalist Australia play a big role in this, bringing together everyday observers and professionals to record and share species found around us.
Observations can be collected in many ways — from organised, structured surveys to simple records made while out walking, riding, or driving. When possible, I spend time conducting site surveys. While these are generally observational rather than fully structured scientific surveys, they allow me to work through an area and document the species I encounter.
This section of the site is where I share these observations, along with an insight into how I carry out my surveys and document what I find.
