Two ways in, and you can do both
Most of what is on this site came from people out looking at things — on a shore, in a gully, under a jetty — and writing down what they found. There are two ways to be part of that, and they work perfectly well together.
A club is a group that already meets and goes out: a dive club, a naturalist group, a photography society. Joining one gets you its calendar, its members and its own journal, and clubs run their own events and surveys through this site.
A member account is yours alone. It lets you suggest species, locations and events, record your own observations, keep a public profile, and message other members. You do not need to belong to a club to have one, and you can join a club later without starting again.
None of this costs anything. There is no membership fee, no paid tier and nothing held back behind one — this is a volunteer site and it stays that way.
