It is a prostrate plant with thick, succulent leaves the flowers are superficially daisy-like and about 45 mm in diameter and they usually have mauve to purple petals and a white centre. The fruits are globular, about 20 mm diameter and dull red in colourdue to its hardy nature and salt resistance

Bush tucker plant - ripe fruit can be eaten raw or stewed, pigface’s soft fig-like fruit has been described as one of the best bush treats.

Extracts of the plant have significant in vitro antioxidant, antiplatelet, and anti-inflammatory activity
