Amarine sponge found in the cooler coastal waters of southern Australia, including Tasmania. It typically grows on rocky reefs and other hard surfaces, sometimes attaching to the shells of scallops and other marine animals.
Like other sponges, it feeds by filtering seawater, removing tiny food particles and plankton. The species has also been reported from New Zealand and other parts of the Pacific, although some of these populations may represent closely related species that require further investigation.
