This hermit crabs big claim to fame is that is the first recorded translocated hermit crab species, it is a common hermit crab from from New Zealand where it is Native over the last few years being recorded around Tasmania and Victoria.

This species seems to be very common in larger groups in locations where it has been found with first sightings dating back to 2013 and recently after a couple of years of work between Citizen Scientists and Museums Victoria it has been formally identified and confirmed as being found in Australia.

Identification

Commonly greenish brown in colour across the body and chelae, with deep red and white banding on the antenna, flagellum bright orange.

6 rows of sharp tubercules and setae on the outer surface of the chelae and a spine on the distal upper of the meri of the chelae
